Whether students use their Mandl dental assisting degree and training for a career in back office patient care or in an administrative capacity, they are well prepared at the program’s completion. With a dental assistant education, a graduate of our program can prepare patients to see the dentist; assist the dentist with back-office patient care and during patient care; and can take care of the treatment room and instruments, including all infection control and sterilization measures. A dental assistant is also responsible for taking and processing dental x-rays, performing basic laboratory procedures and educating patients about dental hygiene and oral health.

Dental assistants are employed in fulfilling careers at places such as: dental offices; dentist clinics; private and government hospitals; state and local public health departments; dental schools; and dental laboratories. This New York City-based school, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, offers modern, hands-on training with our well-equipped dental lab. Through Mandl’s Dental Assisting education, students will:

Dental assistants are highly valued by the dental profession and have a choice of dental career environments in and outside of New York City, from private offices to hospitals and clinics. They are involved in a variety of duties -- including managing the front office, preparing the patient for dental work, taking radiographs, and mixing dental materials and amalgams. With expanded job duties, Mandl dental assistant graduates are trained to be capable of assisting chair-side -- and can even perform certain dental procedures in the patient's mouth over the course of their careers.

Job prospects for dental assistants should be excellent in New York and nationwide. Employment is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014. In fact, dental assistants are expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the 2004-14 projection period.

Population growth and greater retention of natural teeth by middle-aged and older people will fuel demand for dental assistants. Older dentists, who have been less likely to employ assistants, are leaving the occupation and will be replaced by recent graduates, who are more likely to use one or even two dental assistants. In addition, as dentists' workloads increase, they are expected to hire more dental assistants to perform routine tasks, so that they may devote their own time to more complex procedures.

The Mandl School, The College of Allied Health located in New York City, also offers a variety of career services: Financial Aid, Academic Counseling, Career Development, Tutoring, and Internships.

Mandl is authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York to award the non-credit Certificate in Dental Assisting. In June 2005, Mandl School, The College of Allied Health located in New York City, Dental Assisting program had an 89% placement rate.

Mandl School is located at 254 West 54th Street, New York City, NY in the heart of Manhattan's Theater District, and is easily accessible by public transportation using the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority's subway and bus routes. New York State Tuition Assistance Program: Students enrolling in a full-time program may apply for awards that range from $275 to $5,000 per academic year.
